Why Can't I?

I have a friend, who I’ve known since my housemanship. She’s from different race and religion. I’m a Moslem and she’s a Christian. Before this, I only knew her as a colleague, who had been very friendly and soft-spoken.

We started to work together during my Obstetric and Gynaecology posting. Then I know her as a sweet and kind-hearted girl. She talks softly to her friends and patients, always be patient and hardly get mad. She will always give priority to her colleague. During on-call, she would rather give the turn to sleep to other friend even though she herself looks very tired. She always say yes when people come to ask for her help and most of the times, she offers her help before she was asked.

Almost every morning she will buy some food or drinks to be shared with us. She always looks for a friend to eat together. Talking with her, she always give good comments about other friends, everybody seems to be nice in her eyes. Being with her makes you feel comfortable, happy and safe.

I’ve learned many things from her, a good values, which Islam had taught but I seldom practiced before (this makes me feel ashamed on myself). An ‘Alim when was asked by somebody on how did he manage to be a good person answered; “I’ve seen people’s wisdom and I follow it, and I’ve seen people’s ignorance and I avoid it.”

I should be better than her in term of akhlaq, because I’m a Moslem, and Islam as a perfect deen has the best example of akhlaq. Perfect akhlaq, has been shown by Rasulullah (the best example) for us, his ummah to follow. A Moslem should be patient, kind-hearted, soft-spoken, loving, helpful and etc (too many good values in Islam). If a non-moslem person can have good values, why we as a Moslem (who believed in Allah and Rasulullah) can't have a good akhlaq?
